With SketchUp Desktop Viewer, anyone can view and print models created in SketchUp. SketchUp Desktop Viewer is a free download that's great for viewing models on computers that don't have or need a full version of SketchUp.

Here are a few benefits of using the SketchUp Desktop Viewer app:

  • Review designs in 3D: Whether you receive a SketchUp file via email or download the file from a shared location on the internet, you can use the SketchUp Desktop Viewer to view designs in 3D by orbiting, panning, playing animations, and more.
  • Easy to use: SketchUp Desktop Viewer is much easier to use than SketchUp, especially if you don't have a background in creating 3D models.
    Tip: If you're sharing a SketchUp file with clients for their review, they can use SketchUp Desktop Viewer to check out the model. Share this article with your clients to help them start using SketchUp Desktop Viewer.
  • Protected files: Because SketchUp Desktop Viewer does not include tools for editing models, you can't alter the model unintentionally. When you open a SketchUp model file in the SketchUp Desktop Viewer app, you see the model as it was meant to be viewed.

SketchUp for Web is a free version of SketchUp that runs in a web browser. You'll find a simple interface where you can simply draw and create 3D models. Our goal is to enable you to create anything you can imagine in 3D. And with SketchUp for Web, 3D modeling is more accessible and easier to try than ever before!

Because SketchUp for Web runs in a browser, you find a few advantages over the desktop version of SketchUp:

  • Access via a broad range of devices: Hardware does matter (as outlined in the hardware requirements), but you're not limited by operating system requirements.

  • Versionless: Browser-based software means you don't need to update it. With SketchUp for Web, you're always running the latest version.
  • Storage and backups: Your models are saved to the web by default, and you get 10MB of free storage. (Saving, Opening, and Downloading Models explains how SketchUp for Web handles these basic tasks. ) Also, SketchUp for Web can work with Trimble Connect to keep you work up to date across desktop, web, mobile, and XR software.

If you're familiar with the desktop version of SketchUp, you'll see almost all the same tools in SketchUp for Web. However, because SketchUp for Web runs in a browser, some things about SketchUp for Web work differently from the desktop version.
